Norman Legacy: Jersey Library’s Special Collection

Chronicles, antiquarian works and British Library maps dating back to the 12th century trace how the Norman story has been told and retold.

As part of Millenium – 2027, European Year of the Normans, The Norman Legacy draws on Jersey Library's Special Collections to explore how the story of the Normans has been recorded, reinterpreted and remembered from the medieval period to the present day.

Through early printed chronicles, historical narratives and richly illustrated antiquarian works, the exhibition examines not only the Norman past itself, but also the ways in which successive generations have reshaped that past to serve new cultural and political purposes. These works demonstrate the enduring influence of the Norman world across Britain, France and the Channel Islands.

The exhibition is organised in collaboration with the British Library. For several weeks, screens on the ground floor of the library will let visitors view special maps of Jersey and the UK from the British Library's collection, dating as far back as the 12th century.

More information is available on the library's website.
