Threads of History: World of the Bayeux Tapestry

Historian Rupert Willoughby reveals the stories, symbolism and people behind the Bayeux Tapestry in this Arts Society Jersey lecture for MILLENIUM 2027.
Threads of History is a lecture on the world of the Bayeux Tapestry, forming part of MILLENIUM 2027 – European Year of the Normans. Historian Rupert Willoughby explores the stories, symbolism and artistry behind one of Europe's best-known medieval works.
Hosted by The Arts Society Jersey, the lecture is given by Rupert Willoughby, a writer, researcher and accredited Arts Society UK lecturer, and looks at the Bayeux Tapestry beyond its famous depiction of the Battle of Hastings.
Through expert insights, anecdotes and fresh historical perspectives, he covers the tapestry's hidden mysteries, the people behind its creation and the story it tells of conquest, power and medieval life.
Placing the tapestry within its wider historical and artistic context, Rupert explains why it remains one of the greatest surviving works of medieval art and a source of fascination nearly 1,000 years after the events it depicts.
More information about the event is available on The Arts Society Jersey's website.
