> Hear Jersey-born Norman poet Wace's 12th-century verse read aloud in Jèrriais, part of Jersey Heritage's 2027 European Year of the Normans programme.

Jersey Heritage's Jèrriais Language Officer, Geraint Jennings, reads aloud in Jèrriais from the 12th-century works of Wace, as part of the MILLENIUM – 2027 European Year of the Normans Programme.

The event is a chance to discover Jersey's linguistic heritage through Jèrriais, the island's native language and a variety of Norman. Hearing Jèrriais spoken offers a glimpse into the language of William the Conqueror's era, connecting listeners to the Norman world of 1066 and the Battle of Hastings.

Wace was a celebrated Norman poet and Canon of Bayeux, born in Jersey around 1110. Known for his evocative epic verse, he brought history and legend to life, recording the events surrounding the Battle of Hastings and weaving tales of the legendary King Arthur. His works offer a link between Jersey's heritage, medieval literature and the stories that have shaped our understanding of the past.
